Tawas Point Lighthouse has an eighty-foot conical brick tower, and now uses an automated optic. Its powerful flashing white light is visible from eighteen miles out on Lake Huron. French traders called the place Pointe Aux Barques or "Point of Little Boats," because of many canoes that used to gather there during fur-trading season.

Directions: To reach the lighthouse, take M-25 to Lighthouse Road. The county park, where the lighthouse stands, is about 10 miles east of Port Austin, and 6 miles north of Port Hope.
