Punta Del Este Lighthouse, was built in 1858, originally placed on a Island called "Isla de Lobos" (Marine Wolf Island). It was located in the front of Punta del Este, but the fishermen were upset because the light of the lighthouse bothered the marine wolf of the island so it was transferred to the main land.

For the construction, used volcanic ashes were brought from Italy. It's height is 45 meters, and the light reaches 11 miles. It works by electricity, with acetylene gas as emergency backup. It is possible to climb the 150 steps of its spiral staircase
