Point Reyes Lighthouse is located in Point Reyes, California. Point Reyes is a high, rugged and preciptious piece of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Drakes Bay, and the entrance to San Francisco Bay, and the wind there blows strong. The site from the lighthouse is 200 feet below the top of Point Reyes, but still 300 feet above sea level.
The 16-sided lighthouse went into operation on December 1, 1870, and its rotating lens gives off a flashing white light that can be seen for more than 20 miles at sea. The light is now automated, since 1975.
