A new Canal Zone memory has been shared by Paul T. Mudge, J.D., M.S., Ph.D.. Thanks, Paul, for sharing with former zonians some good memories of the former Canal Zone. ***A request from me, to my website viewers...
I'd like to add a new section to my website "for just pure enjoyment". I live in Orlando Florida at present, but I've lived in many places that have "snow". Such nice places as most of the eastern United States, including Scotland, and Japan. "I" absolutely love snow and miss it so much. I'd personally enjoy making a new topic on the website that is just regarding views of snow. I'll need your help on this...so please share any photos you might have of snow that you've taken. Please, email me.
Anything, with snow. Those special photos of it falling or on your home street, a lighthouse or something you thought was beautiful with snow. A new "Featured Bird Photo", has been added to the main page of Bird Wonderland. Australian Black Swans, are beautiful, graceful birds, and such a delight to watch. They are very protective of their young baby cygnets, which are a soft gray in color...for many months before turning black. I took this photograph at Lake Eola here in Orlando Florida.

Two new photos of a colony of "nesting" Cormorats, have been added to the "Bird Wonderland" section of the website. One of the photos was taken in the winter months here in Florida, and the other photo was taken in the summer. Both were of the same area, but each at different times of the year...it's nearly impossible to see the nests when the trees have lots of leaves. I have added a new photo of a Snowy Egret. This particular photo shows the Snowy Egret "stomping" around the water, using this method to fish. The Snowy Egret is my favorite of all species of birds...I love their attitude, and all those long feathers on top of its head. They have beautiful yellow feet, and their newborn look like a bad hair day. I hope you enjoy this photo, and take time to see more photos of this type of bird on my Snowy Egret page.

I have added a new photo of a Great Egret, "landing" at nearby lake. I love the graceful landing it always displays. This photo is of a younger Egret. This bird, just like the Great Blue Heron, fishes by standing very still at the water edge. Often a "Snowy Egret" will join in near a Great Egret...but its habit of fishing is stomping around scaring the fish and grabbing them while they try to get away. It often seems as though the Great Egret tries to find another area...and gets frustrated at the Snowy Egret. It's a pleasure to watch these various water fowl. I hope you enjoy the photo. I have added a new photo of a Great Blue Heron, "landing" at nearby lake. These birds are very odd when you see one flying with its legs hanging down...and they look a bit goofy when they come in for their landing. These birds are fascinating...they look so prehistoric. They like to fish by waiting very still at the water's edge then jab a fish with their long pointed beak. It's so interesting so watch them get the fish off their beak in the air and then it lands in its mouth...."slowly" going down their long thin neck. Some of the fish are pretty large...I truly don't see how it ever leaves the neck area. I hope you enjoy the photo. I have added a nice Christmas season photo of Gasparilla Island Lighthouse. The lighthouse is also called Boca Grande Lighthouse. It is located here in Florida, and is next to the beach. A person can drive right up to the lighthouse...there is a picnic table and such a great view to enjoy. Van Miller has donated a web cam for Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Thanks, Van, for sharing this information. I have visited Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in 1999...such a beautiful lighthouse. This is one of my favorite lighthouses in Maine. I usually favor a lighthouse with snow, but Pemaquid has such a spectacular rocky coastline that is especially beautiful.

A very old photo of Balboa Union Church in the former Canal Zone, has been donated by Lance Terrell. It is a picture of the sanctuary in 1940. It is located in Balboa, Canal Zone. Thanks, Lance, for sharing this interesting photo. I played the organ at that lovely church a few times...it was such a beautiful pipe organ. I grew up in Balboa, on the Prado, and always thought the Balboa Union Church was one of the most beautiful buildings...good memories.

I'd appreciate photos that you would like to share, and of course, proper credit will be given. I want to apologize to anyone who has sent an email and hasn't heard a reply from me. I've been ill...and "then" broke my hip, which has caused me a very slow recovery. I am trying now to get back into life, and to improve my website with more topics and new photos. Please email me. Cat Wonderland". I enjoy sharing photos of my cat "Lady Snow", who is a very sweet Chinchilla Persian that just turned three years old. "Maine Wonderland" section, is always a joy to add photos from previous trips to Maine...my favorite state. "Lighthouse Wonderland", is a great photo and information section on lighthouses worldwide...I've shared many of my own photos, and many people have been generous to share their photos. I always appreciate "lighthouse" photo donations. "CANAL ZONE MEMORIES" section, is full of photos and memories of the former Canal Zone where the Panama Canal was built...my grandfather helped to build the Panama Canal, and I was born in the Canal Zone. The "Poetry Wonderland" section, has poems that I've written and enjoy sharing. I've had these poems published, which is one of my proud accomplishments in life. The "Bird Wonderland" section, is my "newest" section. I live next to a lake here in Florida...and I enjoy watching the many birds that visit the lake.
