Cape Elizabeth Light is also known as "Two Lights". Two Lighthouses were built in 1828, and rebuilt in 1874. In 1924, the government ordered that all coastal light stations be reduced to single lights, so the west tower was dismantled. Both lighthouses are located in a private living sector and can only be viewed from a narrow street below, as all other streets in the area are "private only". Both towers are truly beautiful in their Victorian style. Down by the beach below, is a restaurant open during the Summer months, and a great beach area for a family picnic.
