Faro Cabo Polonio Lighthouse is located in the town of Cabo Polonio, northwestern Uruguay, on the Atlantic shore. It marks a very dangerous rocky cape, and a groop of very shallow islands that have caused several shipwrecks.
The lighthouse was put on service during 1881. Its tower is 39.7 m (130 ft) high, and its automated light can be seen at 39 km (21.4 nmi). The lighthouse is manned by personnel of the Armada Nacional (Uruguayan Navy), and has the international number 5 G0662.
