Beachy Head Lighthouse, is located near the edge of the chalk cliffs at Beachy Head near Eastbourne England, on the English Channel. At high tide, the lighthouse is surrounded by the sea.
It was brought into service in 1902, having taken two years to build. A
cableway was constructed from the top of the cliffs to carry the building
materials down to the construction site. The lighthouse is still in use with
its light visible for 25 sea miles. Since 1983 it has been automated with no
staff on site. The lighthouse is 43 metres high.
