American Shoal Lighthouse has a tower height of 109 feet tall, and was installed atop a massive underwater platform. The octagonal keeper's dwelling rests on a platform about forty feet above the water. Automated in 1963, the flashing white and red light has a range of about thirteen miles.

***Directions: Near Overseas Highway Mile Marker 17 on Sugarloaf Key, turn left on Sugarloaf Boulevard (FL CR 939), then right on FL CR 939A. The lighthouse can be seen out in the ocean to the southeast of a bridge across a small inlet.
