Alcatraz Island Lighthouse has an 84-foot reinforced concrete tower, with an adjacent bay-style dwelling. It was automated in 1963. A museum on the island displays the fourth-order Fresnel lens.
***Directions: Alcatraz Island is part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area. Tours of the island, prison, and lighthouse are offered at Pier 41 in the Fisherman's Wharf district.
